After a family photo session in Munich, slow down and savor the morning at one of the city’s family-friendly cafés. From sunlit interiors to warm pastries, these spots let kids play while you enjoy a relaxed, memorable moment together.
After a relaxed family photo session, there’s nothing better than slowing down together — sitting in a beautiful café, sharing a treat, and just letting the morning unfold.
Munich has so many wonderful cafés that strike the perfect balance between beautiful design, great coffee, and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere for families. These are spots where you can still enjoy thoughtful interiors, natural light, and excellent pastries — and where kids are greeted with a smile, not a sigh.
Whether you’re wrapping up a family session at Max Josef Platz, strolling through Schwabing, or making a day trip out to Tegernsee, here are a few of my favorite places to enjoy together.
A staple in the Munich café scene — modern, bright, and full of life. Ralph’s is known for its clean aesthetic, great coffee, and outdoor seating that makes it easy for families to spread out and relax.
It’s perfect after sessions around Max Joseph Platz, especially if you want somewhere to pause and chat after photos.
Photographer note: The soft, natural light through the large windows here makes it a lovely spot for a few final candid moments if the family energy is still high.
A cozy Scandinavian-style café tucked near the Isar, Café Bla is effortlessly calm — colourful tones, the cutest ceramics, and sunlight pouring through the windows. They have excellent coffee and warm, friendly staff who don’t mind little voices. If your session took place nearby along the Isar river, this is a perfect follow-up stop.
❤️ Why I love it: The minimal aesthetic makes it photogenic without feeling staged. Families can truly relax here — it’s the kind of place where you can breathe after a busy morning.
If you love spaces that blend style and heart, Sois Blessed is a must. It’s more than a café — it’s part boutique, part concept store, part artful sanctuary. Their brunch is as beautiful as the space itself, and they welcome families with warmth, offering several larger seating spaces (the big table in the front window is a personal favorite). Located in Munich city center, it’s ideal after Glypothek sessions or a stroll through the nearby Hofgarten area.
Photographer tip: If you’re visiting around Christmas or Easter, their seasonal décor and florals add such a gorgeous touch for lifestyle-style portraits.
Simple, stylish, and full of light — Café Mabe feels like Munich’s version of a Scandinavian design café. It’s a neighborhood favorite in Maxvorstadt, serving excellent coffee, fresh pastries, and small bites in a clean, relaxed setting. Perfect for a quiet family moment before or after your neighbourhood session along the streets in Maxvorstadt.
Why it works for families: There’s a calm rhythm here — families fit in naturally, and the atmosphere feels unhurried.
A cheerful, Australian-inspired spot known for its bright interiors, avocado toast, and positive energy. Poppi Farmer feels like summer year-round and is a great place for brunch after a morning session.
Their menu is full of healthy (and kid-approved) options, and the space is colorful yet minimal — a dream combo for photos.
Pairing idea: After an in-home photo session in Au-Haidhausen, walk here to refuel and grab a few relaxed café shots of your family enjoying breakfast together.
If coffee is your love language, this is your spot. Supremo roasts some of the best coffee in Munich, and their café has a timeless, slightly industrial charm. This one’s great for families with older kids or teens — stylish but laid-back, with room for everyone to unwind. We adore the small back patio on a warm day.
Photographer note: This café has texture — metal, wood, coffee tones — perfect for more editorial family photos.
If you’re up for a little road trip, Aran in Tegernsee is worth it. Right on the lake, with panoramic views and incredible bread, it’s the kind of place that turns an afternoon into a full family memory. Combine it with a few lakeside photos and a walk along the shore, and you’ve got a session that feels straight out of a European lifestyle magazine.
Why it’s special: The light off the lake, the bread and coffee (don’t skip the basilikum spread), and the relaxed mountain air — it’s everything I love about photographing families in Bavaria.
The best sessions don’t end when the camera goes away. They flow naturally into connection and joy — walking, talking, sipping coffee, or sharing pastries together. These cafés give you the space to do that, to keep the story going after your photo session in a way that feels true to your family.
If you’d like help planning your route or pairing your favorite café with a photo location that matches your style, I’m always happy to help.
