Photography for Families Experiencing Munich Together

Munich family portraits

Document Your Family’s Time in Munich

Some trips become part of your family’s history.

The ones you’ve planned for months. The ones you talk about for years afterward. The ones where your children see a new part of the world with wide eyes and endless curiosity.

Whether you’re spending a week exploring Munich, celebrating a milestone in the Alps, or making memories across Europe together, this moment won’t last forever.

Years from now you won’t remember in perfect detail, it comes back in flashes. The feeling. The laugh. The way your child held your hand. One day, what remains are the moments you chose to hold onto. For families visiting or living in Munich, these photographs become more than souvenirs.

As a Munich family photographer specializing in English-speaking families, I document your family in a way that embraces the unexpected, so when you look back, you don’t just see it.

You feel it.

Most families book 4-8 weeks in advance

About

A Photographer Who Understands This Life

I’m Alecia, a Canadian photographer, mother and expat working in Munich.

I know what it means to build a life away from home.

To bring my kids on the most epic of adventures.

To want my children to feel grounded.

Families tell me how easy this is from the very beginning.

Your children don’t need to perform.
You don’t need to force anything.

I’m drawn to laugh lines, to the crinkle that comes only with a real smile, to the tiny half-moments that contain all the love you have for each other.

These are the photographs I return to most in my own family, and the ones I create for yours.

"You were our easiest and best choice"

- Erin & Adam

"During the session, she was unbelievably patient with the kids, allowing them to move, play, and just be themselves. And somehow, through her lens, she captured the most magical moments—those tiny, in-between expressions and interactions that truly reflect who we are as a family."

What Your Session Feels Like

Most families come to me worried their children won’t cooperate.

But the session rarely feels the way they expect.

We walk.
You explore with your children.
There’s movement, conversation, pauses.

Slowly, everyone settles in.

Somewhere along the way, it stops feeling like a photo session at all.

If you’re planning time in Munich and want a family photography session that feels like this:

"You for real captured our dynamic, especially the girls' cheeky personalities!"

Exploring Munich with Kids

If you’re wondering what to do in Munich with kids, the answer isn’t a checklist. It’s all about finding your family’s rhythm.

A relaxed guide to visiting Munich with kids, including family hotels, parks, museums, cafés, and why pairing the city with a few days in the Alps creates such a memorable European family trip.

Munich Christmas Market

There’s a certain kind of magic that settles over Munich in late November and December. Twinkle lights glow against centuries-old stone, the air smells of roasted almonds (our kids’ personal favorite) and spices, and music drifts through the market stalls like a promise of something special.

For families traveling to Munich with young children, this season becomes even more meaningful. There’s wonder in every direction and it’s one of the most joyful times to be photographed.

"Everything we hoped to capture"

- Kaitlin

Hot Takes From Your Photographer

Before we work together, it feels only fair you know how I see this whole thing.

I don’t believe family photos are only for when your kids are little.
I don’t believe they’re only about the kids either.

They’re about you. How you love them, how you move through a season together, how a family actually feels when you’re all in it.

Teenagers? Yes.
Grandparents visiting for the first time in years? Absolutely.
A 40th wedding anniversary in Munich? I’ll bring extra batteries.

I am endlessly fascinated by how families show love when nobody is posing for it.

I don’t believe your photos hinge on the perfect outfit.
I don’t believe you need to “fix” anything about yourself before stepping in front of the camera.

If anything, I’d rather photograph your real life than your prepared version of it.

I don’t believe families need to look a certain way to belong in front of my camera.

No rules about structure. No performance required. No “say cheese.”

Just real people, being themselves, however that looks that day.

Here’s what I do believe:

- Come well fed.
- Still bring snacks.
- Bring a change of clothes.
- And probably wet wipes (for reasons you already understand).

Bring an open mind, and the kind of energy you want your photos to have.

I make my best work when I have space to slowly connect with your family, which is why I don’t offer mini sessions.

Time matters in this work. Trust matters most.

Open to families of all shapes, sizes, orientations, cultures, and ways of doing life together.

Best Locations for Family Photos in Munich

Choosing the right location for your family photos in Munich is a key aspect of what I do.

Some families feel most at home surrounded by architecture, the sounds of the city and the places woven into your daily life. Whether you love the sense of place of Munich’s Old Town or the quiet side streets of Schwabing.

Others are drawn to nature. Running barefoot through the Englischer Garten, stopping at the biergarten and playground for a slow Sunday evening.

And just beyond the city, there’s a completely different kind of quiet. Lakes like Tegernsee and Schliersee offer space to breathe, to move, and to be together without distraction.

Each location carries a different feeling. Part of my role is helping you choose the one that reflects your family, your rhythm, and this particular season of your life.

If you’d like to start exploring locations, you can read my full guide to the best family photo locations in Munich.

WHO THIS IS FOR

This is for you if:

This is for you if:

- You’re living in Munich for a few years and want to remember this chapter

- You’re visiting Munich on a family Euro trip

- You value natural, emotionally connected photographs

- You value a curated gallery

- You’d like to print photos to hang in your home, or in an album

- You want someone who guides the entire experience

This may not be the right fit if:

- You’re looking for heavily posed or studio-style portraits

- You want a quick, transactional photo session

What to Wear for Your Munich Family Photos

Wardrobe plays an important role in how your photos feel.

I provide personalized guidance for your session, but some basic rules of thumb are:

- Complimentary tones photograph beautifully in both city and mountain settings

- Layers and texture add depth without distraction (think chunky knits and natural fabrics)

- Clothes that wouldn’t be out of place fifty years ago, or fifty years from now, feel timeless

The goal is never to over-style, but to help you feel comfortable, confident, and like your best selves.

Mother wraps her arms around her daughters head into her tummy.

By this point, you likely know if this feels like the right fit.

If it does, I’d love to hear about your family and your time in Munich.

Your Questions About Family Photography in Munich, Answered

What do we actually need to do?

Very little. Once I’ve received your inquiry I guide you through everything (location, timing, wardrobe and flow). Your role is to show up and be present with your family.

Do you work with English-speaking families?

Exclusively. Many of my clients are expats or traveling families from North America, the UK, Japan and beyond. As a native English speaker, I ensure clear communication and a comfortable experience throughout.

What if our kids are unpredictable?

They are, that’s actually the magic. That is why your session will be completely unique to you, and your photos will bring you right back to how these moments felt.

Do you help with choosing the location?

Of course! After a short discovery call, I recommend locations based on your family, the season, and the overall feeling you want for your photos.

What are the best locations for family photos in Munich?

The historic city centre and Englischer Garten reflect everyday life in the city, while lakes such as Tegernsee and Schliersee offer a quieter, more village-feeling setting. I guide you toward what feels most aligned with your family. If you simply cannot wait, see our full guide to best family photo locations in Munich here.

Can we combine a photo session with a day trip from Munich?

Such a good idea! Many families choose to combine their session with a visit to the Bavarian Alps or nearby lakes. Locations like Schliersee, Tegernsee or Spitzingsee are perfect for this. We’re constantly exploring this region with our own kids, ask us for our favorites!

What happens if the weather is bad?

I keep a close eye on the forecast and stay flexible. In some cases, I may adjust our timing or location. Light cloud, mist, or even light rain can create beautiful, cinematic photographs- don’t worry I always guide you toward the best option.

How long is a family photo session?

Most sessions are between 90 minutes and 4 hours. This allows enough time for everyone to relax and for natural moments to happen without feeling rushed. I offer 45 minute sessions exclusively for people I have already photographed.

How far in advance should we book you?

Typically 4–8 weeks in advance, especially during peak seasons like spring, fall, and the Christmas markets. If you’re traveling to Munich, I recommend reaching out as soon as your dates are confirmed.

When will we receive our photos?

You’ll receive a preview within 48 hours, and your full gallery within 2 weeks.

How much does a family photographer in Munich cost?

Family photography in Munich typically ranges from €400 to €1500+, depending on the length of the session and the photographs included. Most of the families I work with invest between €700–€1200 for a fully guided experience, including location planning, wardrobe support, and a thoughtfully curated gallery of photographs.

Do you offer heirloom prints and albums?

Yes.

Albums, framed prints, and keepsake boxes are available directly through your online gallery, designed to make it easy to turn your images into something tangible.

Your gallery includes a print store that automatically adjusts based on where you live (Canada, USA, UK, Europe, Australia, and beyond), so everything is priced and delivered locally without you having to think about logistics. Because you have better things to do than Google international shipping zones.

When is the best time of year for family photos in Munich?

Munich is beautiful year-round, but each season offers something different.

Spring and early fall bring soft light and quieter locations. Summer evenings are warm and relaxed, especially in the city and by the lakes. Winter, particularly during the Christmas markets, feels atmospheric and full of tradition.

The best time ultimately depends on how you want your photos to feel, and I guide you toward what will suit your family best.
