Capture Your Family’s Life in Munich

Living abroad changes you.

New routines. New places. Maybe a new language? A life that slowly begins to feel like home.

And then one day it shifts again. It could be a move, a new season, or a child who suddenly feels older.

For families living in or passing through Munich, this isn’t just a trip or a chapter, it’s a piece of your story that deserves to be remembered in its unexpected and nuanced glory. How it feels to remember, a sense, sometimes hazy, sometimes blurry, but felt intensely.

As a Munich family photographer specializing in Expat and English-speaking families, I document your family in a way that embraces the unexpected, so when you look back, you don’t just see it.

You feel it.

This Is Not Cookie-Cutter Family Photography

There’s a reason families choose me.

I’m not bringing a shot list or a formula to your session.
I tune into your energy. The small, fleeting things that can’t be staged.

Some kids are wild. Some are slow to warm. Some want to explore everything.

That’s where the magic is.

What I create are not “perfect” photos.

They are alive, intimate, deeply connected, and impossible to recreate.

"They aren’t just pictures; they are memories frozen in time"

- Nouran

About

A Photographer Who Understands This Life

I’m Alecia, a Canadian photographer, mother and expat working in Munich.

I know what it means to build a life away from home.

To create routines in a new place.

To want your children to feel grounded.

This is why families trust me so quickly.

Your children sense ease.

You don’t feel like you have to perform.

And everything is handled so you can simply be with your family.

I’m drawn to laugh lines, to the crinkle that comes only with a real smile, to the way your son grabs your finger, the way your daughter curls her hair around her ear. These are the things I document in the people I love, and the moments I document for you too.

I’m here to provide a safe space for you to love on your family. These are the photographs I keep coming back to for my own family, and the ones that will last for you.

"You were our easiest and best choice"

"During the session, she was unbelievably patient with the kids, allowing them to move, play, and just be themselves. And somehow, through her lens, she captured the most magical moments—those tiny, in-between expressions and interactions that truly reflect who we are as a family."

What the Experience Feels Like

Most families come to me worried about one thing, “what if my kids don’t cooperate?”

What actually happens:

- you walk and chat with you kiddo, settling in

- laughter comes naturally

- moments that happen every day, that feel so like you, happen

I guide when needed and step back when moments unfold on their own.

By the end, it doesn’t feel like a photo session, just simply time together.

Kind Words
"You for real captured our dynamic, especially the girls' cheeky personalities!"

Family Photo Session

Munich Christmas Market

There’s a certain kind of magic that settles over Munich in late November and December. Twinkle lights glow against centuries-old stone, the air smells of roasted almonds (our kids’ personal favorite) and spices, and music drifts through the market stalls like a promise of something special.

For families traveling to Munich with young children, this season becomes even more meaningful. There’s wonder in every direction and it’s one of the most joyful times to be photographed.

"Everything we hoped to capture"

- Kaitlin

Because these aren’t just photos for your phone.

They’re for your life.

Why Families Choose Me as Their Munich Family Photographer

There’s a difference in working with someone who understands not just photography, but the life you’re living here.

For the families I work with, this shared experience is what makes everything feel easier from the very beginning. I know what it means to build a home away from home. To navigate a new culture, a new language, and still want your family to feel grounded, seen, and understood.

I spend time getting to know your family, how you move together, what matters to you, and what you want to remember from this season. I scout locations ahead of time, considering light, space, and how your children will experience it so when the day arrives, nothing feels uncertain.

During the session, there’s no pressure. Your kiddos are free to be themselves, and you’re free to be with them. I guide when needed, and step back when it’s happening on its own.

This is what stands out most:

It feels easy. It feels considered.

It feels like someone is taking care of all the details, so you don’t have to.

And in that space, magic happens.

What to Wear for Your Munich Family Photos

Wardrobe plays an important role in how your photos feel.

I provide personalized guidance for your session, but some basic rules of thumb are:

- complimentary tones photograph beautifully in both city and mountain settings

- layers and texture add depth without distraction (think chunky knits and natural fabrics)

- clothes that wouldn’t be out of place fifty years ago, or fifty years from now, feel timeless

The goal is never to over-style, but to help you feel comfortable, confident, and like your best selves.

FAQ

What do we actually need to do?

Very little. Once I’ve received your inquiry I guide you through everything (location, timing, wardrobe and flow). Your role is to show up and be present with your family.

Do you work with English-speaking families?

That’s our jam. Many of our clients are expats or traveling families from North America, the UK, Japan and beyond. As native English speakers, we ensure clear communication and a comfortable experience throughout.

Are your sessions suitable for babies and young children?

Totally! Our sessions are designed to be relaxed and child-led. We create space for your kids to move, explore, and interact naturally.

What if our kids are unpredictable?

They are, that’s actually the magic. That is why your session will be completely unique to you, and your photos will bring you right back to how these moments felt.

What does a session actually feel like?

Like a date with your family. It starts out a bit awkward (for 5 minutes tops) and then we’re sailing. I guide as needed and step back when it’s all happening naturally. Families tell us the same thing afterward, it didn’t feel like a photoshoot, it felt like a special time together.

Do you help with choosing the location?

Of course! After a short discovery call, we recommend locations based on your family, the season, and the overall feeling you want for your photos.

What are the best locations for family photos in Munich?

The historic city centre and Englischer Garten reflect everyday life in the city, while lakes such as Tegernsee and Schliersee offer a quieter, more village-feeling setting. We guide you toward what feels most aligned with your family. If you simply cannot wait, see our full guide to best family photo locations in Munich here.

Can we combine a photo session with a day trip from Munich?

Such a good idea! Many families choose to combine their session with a visit to the Bavarian Alps or nearby lakes. Locations like Schliersee, Tegernsee or Spitzingsee are perfect for this. We’re constantly exploring this region with our own kids, ask us for our favorites!

What should we wear for our family photo session?

I provide personalized outfit guidance for each of our families. In general, complimentary but not matching tones, soft textures, and layers work beautifully in both city and mountain settings. Read our full guide on what to wear for your Munich family photo session here.

What happens if the weather is bad?

I keep a close eye on the forecast and stay flexible. In some cases, we may adjust timing or location. Light cloud, mist, or even light rain can create beautiful, cinematic photographs so we always guide you toward the best option.

How long is a typical family photo session?

Most sessions are between 90 minutes and 4 hours. This allows enough time for everyone to relax and for natural moments to happen without feeling rushed. I offer 45 minute sessions exclusively for people we have already photographed.

How far in advance should we book you?

Typically 4–8 weeks in advance, especially during peak seasons like spring, fall, and the Christmas markets. If you’re traveling to Munich, I recommend reaching out as soon as your dates are confirmed.

When will we receive our photos?

You’ll receive a preview within 48 hours, and your full gallery is delivered within 2–4 weeks, depending on your collection.

How much does a family photographer in Munich cost?

Family photography in Munich typically ranges from €400 to €1500+, depending on the length of the session and the photographs included. Most of our families invest between €650–€1200 for a fully guided experience, including location planning, wardrobe support, and a thoughtfully curated gallery of images that feel natural and lasting.

What do people do with their photos afterward?

They print them. Albums, framed prints and keepsake boxes are most popular with our families. I guide you through this so nothing gets lost on your phone.

When is the best time of year for family photos in Munich?

Munich is beautiful year-round, but each season offers something different.

Spring and early fall bring soft light and quieter locations. Summer evenings are warm and relaxed, especially in the city and by the lakes. Winter, particularly during the Christmas markets, feels atmospheric and full of tradition.

The best time ultimately depends on how you want your photos to feel, and we guide you toward what will suit your family best.
