Rent the Boathouse for Exclusive Use

You can rent exclusive access to the Lago Di Braies boathouse (La Palafitta) in advance. This is the best way to ensure privacy during your elopement, as Lago di Braies is a popular spot for tourists year round. If you plan on incorporating florals, booking the boathouse is essential. For 600 euros, you get exclusive access to the boathouse and two boats (no other boats are rented out on the lake during this time). Remember, the booking goes ahead irrespective of the weather. Fog over the mountains is common, and can actually be quite dreamy in your photos!

We’ll coordinate the exact meet time based on light, weather, and desired look.

Yes — ideally 30 minutes before your boathouse booking to ensure no traffic slowdowns, etc.

What season is best for photos?

Late spring and early fall offer the most consistent weather and fewer crowds.

Do you recommend hiring an elopement planner? 

Yes! Planning your elopement at Lago Di Braies involves several key considerations to ensure your day is seamless and magical. We recommend hiring a planner who specializes in international elopements in Italy. There are several very good options and we’re happy to provide recommendations - we know it can feel overwhelming when you start searching. 

What are the legal requirements for a wedding in Italy?

It’s possible for foreigners to get married in Italy but requires some foresight and typically 6-8 months for the paperwork. This often includes obtaining an Atto Notorio and a Nulla Osta from your respective consulate - your elopement planner will provide this information. Many of our couples choose to handle the legalities of marriage in their home country, and have a symbolic ceremony in the Dolomites.

Do we need a photography permit at Lago di Braies?

If you choose to go with a symbolic wedding ceremony there are no permits or fees required. You do not require a photography permit to document your Dolomites elopement.

Can we have drone photos at Lago di Braies?

No. Just no. It’s expressly forbidden and I’d encourage you to think deeply about why you’d want to try and get around the rules that are meant to protect this incredible place. I’ve watched photographers lose sight of their drones at Lago di Braies and almost crash into people. Trust me, we can make epic photos without the drone. We will not do drone photography at Lago di Braies.

A Dolomites elopement can absolutely be an all-day adventure — but it’s important to build it around realistic travel times, lift schedules, and the rhythm of the mountains.

Below is a thoughtfully paced itinerary we often recommend to couples wanting a multi-location experience.
It balances adventure with presence, giving you time to breathe, connect, and truly experience the magic of each place.

We’ve included realistic timing based on June (peak sunrise, earlier boathouse opening) and September (softer light, later start times).

🌅 Sunrise at Lago di Braies 

Because the boathouse (La Palafitta) controls access to the dock and boats, if you’d like the private rental of the boathouse, your session cannot begin before their opening time:

• 6:30–8:00am in June
• 7:30–9:00am in September

This aligns beautifully with the early morning glow. The light is soft, the lake is calm, and there’s still a sense of quiet intimacy.

Session timing: ~1.5 hours
Expected start: 6:30 or 7:30am
Expected end: 8:00–9:00am

From Lago di Braies, the drive to Seceda (Ortisei or Furnes lift station) takes:

• ~1 hour 40 minutes without traffic
• Up to 2 hours in peak seasons

Then you’ll take:

• one gondola
• one cable car
• and a short walk to reach the ridge

Total travel + lift time: ~2–2.5 hours

Est. Arrival at Seceda:

• June start: arrive ~10:30am
• September start: arrive ~11:00am

From the parking area at Rifugio Auronzo, the most iconic Tre Cime viewpoint is a 25–30 minute walk along a wide gravel path. It’s an accessible, scenic route that gives you sweeping mountain views without needing a strenuous hike — perfect for golden-hour or sunset sessions.

Sunset session: 5:00–7:30pm
(No need to stay until full sunset — you’ll still catch the best light.)
