Playful Family Photoshoot at The Addams Loft, Cologne

Having the opportunity to photograph people over and over again is such a blessing. We love watching people change and grow, watching their love evolve. We had the opportunity to photograph Brittany and Luke when they were a couple, when they found out they were expecting, when their babe was newborn and we couldn’t wait to capture a bit of their magic during the toddler stage while they were on holiday in Germany. This playful family photoshoot was so much fun despite the rainy weather!

Working with the same photographer repeatedly helps you get comfortable in front of the camera

One of the beautiful things that happens when you photograph people over and over again is their sense of confidence and comfort increase exponentially. They know what to expect from us, both during the photo session and the images they will receive afterwards. Brittany and Luke took no time at all to be comfortable in front of my lens during this session. 

The Addams Loft, Solingen - a perfect setting for family photoshoots in Cologne

Typically we like to photograph families in a space that is special to them, whether that is in their home or outdoors. Brittany and Luke were visiting Germany so obviously their own home was not an option and the temperatures and unpredictable weather that is typical of Germany in mid-February was not conducive to an outdoor photo session. 

The Addams Loft is an urban industrial loft, located just outside of Cologne in Solingen, Germany. The owners, Patrick and Michelle are wonderful to work with and very accommodating. We had previously used The Addams Loft for our own family photo session in December so we knew the space well. 

The loft has gorgeous industrial windows that let in tons of natural light irrespective of the weather outside. The space is decorated minimally with rich tones and so many plants. It has many different little nooks and crannies to get comfortable in and allows for little ones to wander safely. It’s pretty much my ideal space, I’d move in if I could! 

Secrets to having a successful family photoshoot

Brittany and Luke came prepared with snacks for their little one and music. These are two things I always recommend to families who are coming for a photo session. They followed their little one’s lead, wandering through the loft and engaging naturally. They were an absolute dream to work with. Every so often they took a moment for themselves, snuggling in and enjoying the moment which provided us with an opportunity for not only family photos and some special ones of just mom and dad too.

“When we were thinking of having family photos done our main goal was to capture how our family interacts every day (with slightly nicer clothing). Pat and Al exceeded our expectations. During the shoot we felt at ease to play, laugh and even dance our way through the session without having to worry about being posed right or looking at the camera. When they sent us our gallery we were so happy. Our galley is a small snippet of time that embodies our every day lives.
