Getting Married at The Brighthouse Farm

If you’re dreaming of a wedding weekend that feels relaxed yet refined, The Brighthouse Farm in Wellington, Prince Edward County is a gem. It blends modern design with rustic charm — think: golden fields, sleek architecture, and sunsets that turn everything gold. It’s one of our favourite venues to photograph in Prince Edward County, because it offers endless opportunities for timeless, light-filled images.

Why Couples Love The Brighthouse Farm

This venue is ideal for couples who:

  • Want a stylish, modern barn that is a gorgeous blank slate, ready for your unique wedding vision
  • Love the idea of spending the weekend on-site with their wedding party
  • Are drawn to laid-back, elegant celebrations surrounded by farmland views

The Brighthouse is a blank canvas with personality — minimal, clean, and effortlessly cool. You’ll have the farmhouse for getting ready and staying overnight, and the barn itself is flooded with natural light thanks to its huge wall of windows. It’s one of those rare spaces that feels both elevated and unpretentious.

Who might not love it?
If you’re set on an all-inclusive venue or want everything (including catering) handled in-house, this spot might feel like more coordination than you’d prefer. It’s also worth noting that the barn doesn’t have air conditioning, so summer weddings can get toasty — especially during peak heat hours.

Venue Highlights

  • Location: Wellington, Prince Edward County, Ontario

Best Photo Spots at The Brighthouse Farm

There’s no shortage of incredible photo backdrops here. A few favorites:

  • The farmhouse porch: Classic, warm light and architectural lines — perfect for quiet pre-ceremony portraits.
  • The gardens at sunset: This is where the real magic happens. The sunsets spill across the fields, creating that glowing, painterly light Prince Edward County is famous for.
  • The paths between the farmhouse and barn: Great for more intimate, candid portraits away from the crowd.

Lighting tip:
If your ceremony is held on the grass behind the barn, be mindful of the barn’s shadow line. The light changes quickly, so time your ceremony to avoid harsh shade. Under the sailcloth tent, you’ll want to watch for bright highlights during midday.

Things to Know Before You Book

  • Catering: You’ll need to hire an outside caterer — it’s not included in the venue rental.
  • Air conditioning: The barn does not have A/C, which can be a dealbreaker for some summer couples.
  • Farmhouse stay: The on-site farmhouse is typically a required add-on (around $3,000 for the weekend), but it adds huge value for convenience and connection.
  • Budget expectations: With The Brighthouse’s preferred vendor recommendations, estimated wedding cost lands around $80K for 2025 — though that depends on choices and guest count.
  • Parking & shuttles: There’s parking on-site, but we recommend arranging a shuttle to and from Wellington (just 5 minutes away).

Pro tip: Ask for a clear fee breakdown before booking, including any required add-ons or service costs. Steph, the venue coordinator, is so lovely to work with and full of helpful information.

From a Photographer’s Perspective

We love shooting at The Brighthouse because everything happens in one place — from getting ready to golden-hour portraits to dancing under the tent. The team here is upbeat and collaborative, which always sets the tone for a great day.

One of my favourite memories was capturing Kendra and Challen’s portraits right after Kendra’s outfit change. The light was soft, the guests were laughing nearby, and they finally had a moment to breathe it all in — pure joy.

If you’re photographing here for the first time, lean into your couple’s vision. Some want the farmhouse front and center in their story, while others prefer to focus on the landscape and architecture. Both can work beautifully.

Frequently Asked Questions About The Brighthouse Farm

What’s the area like around The Brighthouse Farm?

The surrounding area of Prince Edward County is known for its rolling vineyards, historic charm, and vibrant local culture — making it an ideal wedding destination that offers far more than just a beautiful venue. Located just five minutes from Wellington, The Brighthouse Farm gives you that “out in the country” feeling without being isolated.

It’s the perfect setup for a full wedding weekend — from pre-wedding festivities to a relaxing post-wedding brunch. Start your morning with a coffee from RISE in Wellington, spend the afternoon winery-hopping, and then unwind with your guests at sunset back at the farmhouse.

What reception spaces are available?

There are several unique reception options at The Brighthouse Farm, each with its own charm:

  • Sailcloth Tent: Celebrate under the high peaks of the elegant sailcloth tent, where soft lighting and open sides create an al-fresco vibe while keeping guests comfortable. It’s perfect for those golden PEC evenings.
  • The Restored Barn: With exposed beams, clean lines, and a wall of windows that floods the space with sunset light, the barn feels cozy yet modern — especially magical during cocktail hour.
  • Al-Fresco Dinner at the Farmhouse: For smaller or more intimate gatherings, an outdoor dinner in the driveway of the farmhouse feels effortlessly chic.

Each space gives couples flexibility to design their reception around their guest count and aesthetic.

What are the ceremony site options?

There are two primary ceremony locations at The Brighthouse Farm:

  • The Grassy Lawn: Overlooking rolling fields and wide-open skies, this open-air ceremony space can accommodate up to 120 guests. It’s ideal for couples who want a serene countryside backdrop for their vows.
  • The Sailcloth Tent: Perfect for inclement weather or when you want to keep guests shaded from the sun. It’s equally beautiful and still gives that airy outdoor feel.

Do we need to hire a planner or coordinator?

While The Brighthouse Farm team is warm and helpful, this is a venue that truly benefits from having a professional planner or coordinator. Because you’ll be sourcing your own catering and vendors, having someone manage logistics — setup, tear-down, transportation, timing, and communication between teams — is key to keeping your day stress-free.

If you’re planning from out of town, a local planner familiar with Prince Edward County venues is especially helpful. They’ll know the best timing for deliveries, local rental companies, and backup options for unpredictable weather.

Can we host a welcome party or rehearsal dinner nearby?

Absolutely. Many couples make their Brighthouse Farm celebration into a full weekend experience.

You can host a welcome party or rehearsal dinner right on-site at the farmhouse or under the sailcloth tent. Alternatively, head into town — Slake Brewing and The Royal Hotel both offer excellent spaces for casual or semi-formal gatherings.

A Friday night welcome party followed by a Saturday ceremony and a Sunday brunch at the farmhouse is a popular (and very doable) format that gives guests a full Prince Edward County experience.
